Slow Learners here we refer to are those who have reading difficulty, writing difficulty, spelling difficulty, mathematics difficulty etc. which may be the results of deficit in concentration, hyperactivity etc. The causes for the above may be many viz.seizure/convulsions/fits; poor nutrition; pre-maturity, low birth weight etc.
The children with Slow Learners will be having low IQ.
Commonly certain terminologies are used as under:
Dyslexia - Reading dificulty
Dysgrphia - Writing difficulty
Dsycalculia - Mathematics difficulty
Dyspraxia
Learning Disability [LD]
Attention Deficit Hyderactivity Disorder [ADHD]
Specific Learning Disabilities [SLD]
To my understanding, a combination of difficulties as mentioned above would result into
Slow Learner.
I have mentioned only few of learning problems above. I
did not mention here the definitions of above terminologies, the same can be obtained from any website. I want to present the problems faced by the slow learners in a
simple and practical manner.

- Reversal of b / d; B / D; p / q
- confusion between W and M
- skips certain words while reading
- adds certain words which are not mentioned while reading
- no proper space between words while writing
- confusion between 6 and 9
- confusion between 'no' and 'on'
- misses some alphabets in words while writing
- do not understand the place values in numbers
- reads certain words in reverse manner
- A slow learner may be good at keyboard
A book titled "BREAKING THROUGH" - A Handbook for Parents and Teachers of Children with Specific Learning Disabilities. The Author is FARIDA RAJ. Printed by VIFA Publications, 9-1-87-119/3, Sarojinidevi Raod, Secunderabad. I find the book very useful for slow learners. The concept of Learning Disabilities was narrated in a lucid manner and the author even suggested the remedies to overcome the difficulties. I really appreciate the attempt of the author.
